about mythos: RagnaröK

Mythos: Ragnarök is a groundbreaking theatrical production that fuses the grandeur of Norse mythology with the high-octane spectacle of professional wrestling, to create a one-of-a-kind phenomenon that captivates audiences around the world.

Fast-paced and hilarious, the narrative is a dynamic retelling of Nordic myths and legends that follows the complex relationships and power struggles between iconic figures like Odin, Loki, Thor and Freyja, as they attempt to avoid the prophesied end of the world, Ragnarök.

Yet what sets Mythos: Ragnarök apart is its innovative approach to theatre. By integrating elements of professional wrestling - such as high-impact fight scenes, dramatic character entrances and audience engagement - with theatrical storytelling, the production seamlessly blends the comedy and gravitas of Shakespearean theatre with the palpable excitement of live combat.

Particularly remarkable is the cast's dual expertise in acting and wrestling, which creates performances that are as emotionally resonant as they are physically impressive.

Described by the Telegraph as “The perfect way to tell this story” and featured in the Daily Mail for being the “maddest, baddest show on the Fringe…a phenomenon” the show has received widespread acclaim from critics and audiences alike. Reviewers rave about its originality, energy and ability to tastefully bring action into highly regarded theatres like The Royal Playhouse in The Hague, Alexandra Palace Theatre in London and The Renaissance Theatre in Vienna. Audiences consistently praise the show's ability to entertain and engage, even when the audience is unfamiliar with mythology or wrestling, and the way the cast welcomes hundreds of eager fans for photos and autographs after every show.

Written, directed and produced entirely by English actor/wrestler Ed Gamester, Mythos: Ragnarök debuted in England in 2021 as the first show of its kind in the world. It went on to sell out at the famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival year after year, quickly becoming a cult classic and a symbol of fierce new independent theatre.

This unique troupe now tours the world, defying expectations, drawing people of all ages into theatres and redefining the public’s understanding of the performance art of wrestling.

The show is still owned and operated by Ed himself, who continues to lead every one of its 200+ performances, along with his girlfriend Melanie Watson, who designs and makes the costume, artwork and set. Together with their dedicated and multi-talented cast, they are the epicentre of a revolutionary new approach to physical and dramatic theatre, which is steadily becoming a global spectacular.
