  • "Maddest, baddest show of the Fringe... The bonkers brainchild of wrestler, actor and impresario Ed Gamester, it takes Viking mythology and turns it into a death battle between gangster god Odin and chief mischief maker Loki (Gamester himself when I saw it), with other celestial Mafiosi, including fertility god Freyja, and meat-head thunder god Thor, also attempting to muscle in... They're a phenomenon."

    Daily Mail ★★★★

  • "If you could only catch one Fringe performance, this would be my top recommendation... A testament to the transformative power of storytelling and physical expression. It offers an immersive and thought-provoking experience that entertains, resonates, and leaves a lasting impression. Whether one is a wrestling aficionado or simply appreciates riveting performances, this production is a standout highlight of the Fringe Festival and a must-see for all discerning audiences."

    MixFM ★★★★★

  • “Knock-out spectacle, which offers a faintly tongue-in-cheek yet surprisingly detailed and respectful version of the Old Norse Edda... I left convinced that rumbles in the ring are the perfect way to tell this story... Mythos: Ragnarok is just as gloriously mad as its source material. Fight, gloves-off, for a ticket.”

    The Telegraph ★★★★

  • "Mythos: Ragnarök is to my mind one of the most exciting, interesting and downright fun pieces of theatre I have ever seen... If you are someone or know someone who hasn't ever seen a live professional wrestling show and wants to see what all the fuss is about, this is the perfect place to start."

    One4Review ★★★★★

  • "There is something for everyone here, from a clearly articulated and simplified-a-bit-for-the-dummies Norse mythology lesson, to Gladiatorial fight-club choreography and more Machiavellianism than Days of Our Lives."

    Theatre Matters ★★★★★

  • “An exceptional show. One that takes professional wrestling and shows you just how valuable it can be in telling a story, especially one of such magnitude.”

    Broadway World ★★★★

  • "A genre-bending display of awesomeness... Part play, part wrestling extravaganza, Mythos: Ragnarok is a unique form of storytelling. It is one of, if not THE BEST, physical theatre shows of the 2024 Adelaide Fringe."

    HiFi Way ★★★★★

  • “This is a stunning show, both literally and figuratively. The pace is relentless, and the storytelling is on point throughout. Go see this show, even if you don’t really enjoy wrestling. If you like old stories and brilliant performances, you will have a lot of fun.”

    Starburst Magazine ★★★★★

  • "Powerful performance, writing, direction and wrestling skills combine to set the bar high for theatre as we know it going forward in an extremely fun, dynamic and exciting way that is accessible for everyone watching.

    Broadway Baby ★★★★★

  • "A thrilling journey through Norse mythology… rich with wrestling and high-energy stunts, seamlessly blending pro-wrestling with sophisticated stage combat. The dynamic choreography, combined with clever audience interaction and sharp comedic timing, offers a refreshingly alternative approach to storytelling that keeps viewers thoroughly engaged."

    Edinburgh Festival Magazine ★★★★

  • "It’s not 70 minutes of straight up wrestling—it is a play after all, and there are longer scenes of dialogue. But every time the heavy metal music gets turned up, and a new challenger enters the arena, it’s like we really are at an adrenaline-pumping wrestling match. [...] It’s a fabulous, ridiculous marriage of theatre and wrestling."

    Playbill: Pick of the Fringe

  • “Spectacular proof of the storytelling potential and drama in the wrestling world and is perfectly accessible to those who wouldn’t ordinarily watch a wrestling match... Ed makes this marriage between professional wrestling and Norse mythology feel more than fated, he makes it feel obvious.

    Binge Fringe ★★★★★

  • "In its mission to reverse the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s sanitisation of Norse mythology and show the grisly side of the old gods, this is an action-packed thrill ride that’ll leave you applauding every bone-crunching body slam.”

    The List ★★★★

  • “It walks a careful tightrope, catering to wrestling fans and mythology lovers alike...while remaining welcoming to audiences with no prior knowledge of either.”

The Fringe Review: “Must See Show”

  • "Simply phenomenal and a delightful evening of fun. Deservedly leaves a sold out audience on their feet with applause."

    The Wee Review ★★★★★

  • "I deplore violence and cringe even at fictional depicitions; However Mythos was, for me, a masterclass in stage combat...an unmissable blockbuster of a show."

    London Theatre 1 ★★★★★

  • "Pure joy, a one-of-a-kind theatrical spectacle... A cohesive piece of theatre rather than a sporting event... Don't think twice and grab tickets if you dare."

    West End Evenings ★★★★★

  • "It weaves storytelling with physical theatre and scintillating showmanship... Original, masterful and a phenomen to behold."

A successful proof that wrestling is as much an artform as any other media. An engaging storytelling of the Norse mythology. Would give WWE a run for its money. Wrestling combat deepened by the Norse mythos and it was very professionally done. 5/5

Arcangelo Garbellini

This was the awesome!!! Norse mythology told through wrestling matches, how come nobody thought about that? I’m no wrestling fan, but I think this is one of the best way to tell these stories, if only real wrestling was as entertaining and good at storytelling! The first wrestling show of the Fringe should definitely not be the last!

Kara Lancaster

The most simple way to review this show is to say, “If you didn’t see it, I truly feel sorry for you.” The sheer amount of hard work and passion on display, bleeding out of this hoard of multi-talented renegades all over a stage of plywood and canvas, proves once and for all that professional wrestling, stage combat, and Shakespearean acting belong together.

It’s simply astonishing that this hadn’t been done before, but anyone who wasn’t there will soon be thankful that it now has.

Miles S

I went to see the show earlier on during the Fringe and loved it so much that I kept telling everyone to come with me to see it once more or to go see it on their own. I managed to convice a couple of people and, today on the 28th, I was able to catch their last show with a friend. It was phenomenal. Even better than the first time. I knew the story now, so I was anticipating all the good moments (which, like, is 100% of the show, to be fair) and could notice the little impromptu jokes and added lines (which I always love).

This show was made with so much heart, and soul, and passion, and simply LOVE, it’s overwhelming. This is exactly the kind of show I love to watch. Where the performers are enjoying themselves on stage and having a good time (despite being slammed on the stage regularly – and the fact that in between being slammed on their backs and heads etc. they deliver their lines beautifully and act their hearts out), providing brilliant acting and entertainment. It makes a show so much better when you can feel that the actors are giving it their all. I am so glad they were given the chance to bring their show to the Fringe, and I hope to all the gods that they will be back next year. The entire crew is absolute fire, the play is absolute fire, I wish I could see this many, many more times.

Plus, I think Ed and his crew may just have converted me into a wrestling enthusiast.

George

My fellow reviewers have got this one nailed. Fabulous! I’ve never laughed so much watching 200lbs hulks smashing the living daylights out of each other to narrate Norse mythology. What next: a guide to pastry cooking through the medium of bare knuckling cage fighting? Loved it and bought the book on the way out. Such fun and I would happily go again (were there any tickets!).

Cab

Mind-meltingly amazing! I’m not usually one to leave a review but this show really did blow me away. The ability of this cast to connect so viscerally with the crowd is something I won’t soon forget. On top of that the adaption was masterfully done and as far as I’m concerned is the definitive way to experience mythological stories. Thanks to the cast and crew for sharing their passion and dedication. Hoping it’s the first of many more!

Ryan C

Mythos is the story of ragnarok as told by Odin through the medium of professional wrestling. It’s high octane, darkly funny and at times touching and even sad.

What ever your thoughts on the art of wrestling, seeing the performance of these athletes in a small intimate space is bound to impress. The physicality will blow you away and the acting is just as polished as the action.

I hope this is the first of many runs at the fringe for the mythological theatre. Highly recommended.

imkapril

Absolute insanity – a comedic play about Norse gods where the actors wrestlers and beat the living shit out of each other. The stage bounced with 500lb of actor hitting it every 5 minutes and the audience were going fucking bonkers the whole time. The non wrestling bits were funny and well acted and the in the round staging made it all the more immersive and physically impressive. They deserve awards and a fuck off London run to make many 1000s of pounds – clearly the result of hours of hard work and training, so impressive on so many levels

Gregor

Absolutely fantastic show. I’ve been a fan of wrestling for years, but I’ve never seen such an ingenious way of using it to create theatre. The writing and acting were on point too. Shout out to the cast for taking the time to talk to us after the show, honestly some of the nicest people I’ve ever met. Even getting excited and complimenting my t shirt!

If you get a chance to see this show, do it! Highly recommended!!!!

Elizabeth Chung

Words cannot express how amazing this show is! We went on a whim after seeing one of the cast members flyering in costume, and I’ve spoken to countless people about the show since. The high-energy sport of wrestling alongside genuinely good acting and writing (adaptation of mythological content, no less) was such a fascinating, well-conceived, and excellently-executed performance. All three of us even bought the book straight after the show – I cannot recommend this show enough, and I really hope to see more theatre like this in the future.

Hazel

Amazing! It was so well done and we had an amazing time, the wrestlers were all amazing and the storytelling was fab – thanks so much for putting it on.

Vicky Martin

So good I saw it twice!

I was so impressed by this show by all professional wrestlers – the storyline, acting and shock of the slams were bloody brilliant. Hats off to the team performing that every night! If you don’t like wrestling go see this anyway, you’ll love the storyline and acting. Wrestling isn’t normally my thing, but this is one of the best shows I have seen.

Amy-Jane

This show is incredible- I didn’t know what to expect, but it was a wild ride! Impressive wrestling skills, funny and kinda educational too. Watch this if you want to see something different and don’t worry if you’re not into wrestling; I wasn’t before!

Ross Walker

This is hands down one of the best Fringe shows I’ve ever seen.

The team behind Mythos: Ragnarok shows that Pro Wrestling has the potential to be the foremost form of physical theatre. Exciting, brutal and highly impressive.

Having trained as a Pro wrestler myself, I cannot stress enough how difficult It is to do a show like this every night for a month straight. Every hit, throw and bump hurts and the potential of injury is high which shows just how skillful the cast are.

The Mythos crew are Actors, Athletes and Stunt performers of the highest calibre all rolled into one. Along with fantastic writing and wicked comic timing I couldn’t recommend it enough.

I’m can’t wait to see where Ed and his team take this new hybrid art form.

Roger & Heather

Absolute must see show. Surprisingly great story brilliantly delivered through the medium of wrestling. A breath taking experience!

Rhys Sinnett

This was one of the most incredible things that I’ve seen. The acting and the stunts preformed are of the highest standards I really want to add that the cast and the writer were all humble and kind. I honestly want to thank them for all the hard work they’ve put into this show. Best thing I’ve seen in a long time, thank you all so much and keep doing incredible work out there

Nemesia

I never knew theatre needed wrestling before tonight! But after seeing this show, it’s obvious. Such a loud, aggressive, amazing storytelling! Mythical.

PV

Loved this show!!! I don’t follow wrestling at all, and wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The cast were phenomenal (esp Odin and Loki) and I loved how they told the story. And it was pretty mindblowing having the action play out in front of you like that. One of my Fringe highlights!

Egan Jett-Parmer

The show is so nice I had to see it twice! Incredible storytelling, fantastic choreography and an unexpected twist make this show the fringe favorite. Get tickets before time runs out, they sell out fast!

Jonathan Jett-Parmer

Bring the thunder and taste the pain! Awesome version of Nordic myth portrayed by professional wrestlers. An epic tale role with heart and hammering power! You will feel every moment of this story of Odin’s rise as a god. The cast delivers physically and emotionally. Loki and Hela are noted for their performance and pathos. See this show!

Liza G

This show is mind-blowing. Incredibly charismatic performers and outrageous fight sequences the likes of which I’ve never seen live. I almost don’t want to tell people how good it is because I want there still to be tickets left so I can see it again with visiting friends at the end of the month!

Deanna Caplan

This is hands down THE best show of the Fringe imo. Incredible storytelling, amazing acting, hilarious humour; the whole crowd is always buzzing and cheering and laughing. The energy is infectious! If you've never even considered wrestling, PLEASE change your mind for the show. This is my #1 recommended show for EVERYONE.

Philip

2nd year seeing this. Absolutely love it. Not into wrestling- but when you see this combined with the mythos story live it's amazing. So entertaining.

Niall

Absolutely Fantastic! A funny and entertaining take on Norse Mythology with a wrestling twist. The story is well told and the characters are really brought to life by a great cast. I loved every minute of it. 10/10!

Maria

Such an amazing show, definetely go see it. I've never been into wrestling and I mainly went for the cool costumes. When I walked into the theater that is clearly very much a lecture hall I want expecting much. But oh my god, this knocked my off my feet. Within 5 minutes, I forgot all about my surrounding and was completely drawn into the atmosphere and tension created by the performers, the music (just the right amount of cheesy but it fites so well) and the great lighting. The wrestling is incredible, everyone was gasping and whooping the whole time. And it is also a great retelling of the myth of Ragnarök, with a great mix of funny but also serious and genuinly sad moments. Amazing form for this material! The cast are a great mix of stunnigly talented people, it so so thouroghly enganging, Id go again !

Craig Ward

Excellent acting, excellent wrestling, excellent sword fighting! A must see!

EW

What a stunning show! Loved it! As someone with zero interest in seeing wrestling (either in the ring or on TV), I found myself shouting, rooting and booing the heroes and villains throughout the show! Probably the most violently entertaining show on the fringe, this is something you MUST SEE, not just for the uniqueness of its fight scenes, but also for the superb choreography and music! 6/5 and a contender for the best Fringe show. Trust me, you will be cheering, booing and hissing along as the show progresses. You can't help it!

Keith Abrams

Very entertaining and great fun, this was a wonderful surprise. A lot of physical comedy (i.e., akin to pro wrestling) that may not appeal to all, but if you love Viking myths and want a fun time, this is a great pick.

Douglas Spafford

A tour de force in creative storytelling. Seemingly Earth-shattering fights and moves that elicited audible gasps from the audience. But the moments of quiet and conversation brought out the gravitas and skill of each actor deserves equal praise for. Amazing changes to the mythology to truncate the story which worked really well, as well as fleeting mentions to events that people who know them will love. Would recommend to anyone.

Jo

A dramatic and thoroughly entertaining show where the performers show an impressive level of athleticism and skill. The narrative through-line of the myths provides an accessible entry point for wrestling newbies like myself - it's well worth checking out, even if wrestling isn't your thing. 5/5 stars.

Rose T

Incredible! We saw this last night and it blew us away! A really well crafted story that brings wrestling and theatre together into something EPIC!

Sean Allsop

I went to Wrestlemania this year and this better than all of it (minus Steve Austin)

I was blown away by wrestling blended in a story like this, Wrestling is Story telling and these guys will prove it! I hope they do more as this seemed revolutionary for the future of wrestling and storytelling!

Wrestling fan or not

DO NOT MISS!

Steven Anderson

This show absolutely blew me away! The performances were fantastic the cast and crew worked really hard on it and it shows.

It had everything from action to drama and comedy. These performers deserve every bit of love that they get and I can’t recommend this show enough. I loved it so much and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next!

R Washington

Fantastic story telling and acrobatic thrills that make for such an amazingly unique show. Go and see this, you will be in awe of what these athletes can do. Good luck with the rest of the run!

Henry Balden

You have to see this show!!

Robbie Bell

Goddamn, so good. Never watched wrestling before but desperate for this to become a thing everywhere. Old school epic myths with body slams which keep the audience absolutely frothing. Hope the performers see this and know they’re killing it! This is exactly the kind of show that the fringe is about and makes you want to immediately tell everybody you know to see it

Frances Broudie Oldridge

Brilliant brilliant brilliant! I loved this show. The wrestling was exciting and thrilling and kept the adrenaline going throughout the performance. The audience were right behind it from the start. It was a truly unique experience.Go see this show!!

John Stainton

A fantastic combination of pro wrestling and theatre. They tell a fantastic story with amazing fight scenes. My favourite show of the fringe this year. Make sure you see it!

Alex Milbank

Incredible show. Awesome seeing the physicality of these guys and gals up close, and that blended with theatre makes for a truly memorable and entertaining experience. Unique and fantastic. Well done to everyone involved, your hard work and passion for your craft really shines through.

Benjamin Milne

This show makes me so happy to be a wrestling fan. I struggle to find entry points for new fans of the sport, this is it. Brilliantly told story with Marvel-esque comedic wit, all locked up in a gripping, edge of your seat wrestling show worthy of Madison Square Garden! Not to mention a thrilling and educational perspective into Norse mythology!

#YouDeserveIt

James Burgess

Favourite show on the fringe. Great show for both wrestling fans and people who’ve never seen a match. If you don’t see this while you’re here you’re missing out!

Ollie Maddison

HANDS DOWN the best show I’ve ever seen. The entire crew were absolutely flawless and put on the show of a lifetime. They told such a compelling story that will have you laughing, crying and chanting, all within 5 minutes of each other!

Absolutely DO NOT be put off if wrestling isn’t your cup of tea, you’ll still have an amazing time seeing these actors/athletes/amazing people take you on a journey you’ll never forget. Do yourself a favour and go see this show, you won’t regret it!

The only downside is that I don’t have tickets for tonight’s show too!

Clifford and Stephanie

This show was our favourite show at the fringe, great performers, entertaining from beginning to end and stand out performance from Loki, a mischievous Norse God, a definate Must See for everyone even if you don’t think you like wrestling you will do after this!

Benjamin

5 stars! Incredible entertainment, amazing performances from everyone involved. I’m not a wrestling or mythology superfan but it was easily the best thing I’ve been to in who knows how long. Go watch this wonderful show!

Matt Quinton

This is one of the maddest things I’ve ever seen at the Fringe – absolutely a must-see. How often do you get to see live theatre with bodyslams? Audience could not have been more up for it!

Jordan Phillips

GO SEE THIS SHOW!!! As a long time fan of professional wrestling and mythology, I knew this would be right up my street. However, it was the performers’ genuine ability, charisma, and dedication to their craft that really makes Mythos: Ragnarok a MUST SEE!

The blend of professional wrestling and Norse mythology is a stroke of genius – major props to the show’s creator and lead performer. I hope this show sells out every night of the Fringe and beyond!

Sam Rees

As a huge wrestling fan this interested me but what i saw was beyond that. An absolute perfect display of what wrestling and art can achieve. It doesnt matter if your a hardcore wrestling fan or someone who doesnt even like it at all everyone in the show was gripped by how they told a story through the action. I honestly hope this tours and becomes a phenomenon because it deserves to be!

Anna L

An unexpected gem of a show. Never in a million years would I have thought that Norse mythology and wrestlers would grab me but it was brilliantly performed. Incredibly high energy. Special mention for the chap playing Loki. I thought you were incredible.

Vicki Ruth

Watched this honestly it was amazing. It has everything you ever need in it. I love myths and wrestling and watching the combination of the both was everything I needed and was one of my favourite shows that I have seen and would happily see again and wish the cast and producers the best and hope they continue what they do after Edinburgh

Kerr McKinlay

As an Actor and a wrestler that loves Norse mythology it was almost as if this show was tailor made for me! The cast and crew have done a stunning job in creating this beautiful piece of art that manages to capture the brutality and skill of professional wrestling whilst simultaneously showcasing genuine, heartfelt and raw storytelling at its finest. I particularly want to shout out Ed Gamester for his genius invention, Melanie Watson for their incredible costumes and Louise Young for a great performance but also for telling me about the show and getting me to come along as I thoroughly enjoyed every second.

Amazing work all round!

Niall

Best show of the Fringe! This was my favourite by far! I’m going to recommend it to all my friends because I know they’re not going to be disappointed.

Lydia Marshall

One of the best shows I’ve seen, not just at the fringe but in a while! Totally gripping, epic storytelling and brilliant production. The use of costume and music ties together an expertly created piece of theatre. The action will keep you glued but the show as a whole puts you on your feet at the end. A real privilege to watch, and a must see for this year.

Antony Bedford

Genuinely brilliant. Sold me on wrestling in a way I never thought possible. Really glad we took a chance and would go again. Brilliant mash up of so many different types of art.

Melanie Chetwood

Great show. Very entertaining – Norse Gods wrestling – what’s not to like?

Jen G.

The writing, the humor, the acting, the facebusters; all of it combined into a truly enjoyable performance. Wrestling has always been theatre, but Mythos: Ragnarok brings it to a whole different level. Even if you think wrestling isn’t your thing, you won’t be disappointed by the high energy and commitment of this company. Go see it!

Kelsey Cameron

Excellent show. Blended Norse mythology with the excitment of professtional wrestling and used the venue to their advantage.

Daniela Chandler

I really enjoyed this. I liked the high energy they built and maintained with the crowd , the story they weaved and I liked seeing them slam each other around. The stand out actors(wrestlers?) for me were Loki and Hel. Loki really seemed to take on the spirit of the Trickster God with quick wit and deep emotional trauma. Hel was fantastic- her controlled body movements, the ability to look so innocent it made us want to pull her to safety ( even though logically the actor/wrestler was never in danger) Hel and Loki really Helped bolster the emotional strength of this show. All in all the show was very entertaining. The only con I can think of is the sympathy back pain.

Alper Yahsi

A must see !!! This show inspired me so much. Thank you for the revolutionary play…Showing wrestling is also a form of art.

Alan Rose

If you're looking at the show on the page thinking "how does THAT work" or even "I don't like wrestling" all I can say is look at the reviews - I agree with them all!

Apart from the fact that it's utterly unique within the fringe (how often can you say that?), it's also rare to come out of a show where pretty much everyone is buzzing.

The mythology is taken deadly seriously (ok, some good gags too) and the stories well told with great music, staging, and atmos. And the combat? Well... how many times have you seen actors on stage doing great dialog and terrible fight scenes? Not here, it's utterly breathtaking and the folks who "didn't like wrestling" (Including my companion BtW) tended to take a completely different view when it was yards away rather than on TV and fitted perfectly into the broader narrative. You feel the shockwaves running right through you :) ...Thunder of the gods? You bet. Truly unmissable - You will thank me - (and the many others above and below here)

Sue Westcott

Just what the fringe is about - dynamic entertaining and you really won’t know what is coming next. Amazing performances.

Natalia

Suprisingly amazing combo. You don't need to be into wrestling to enjoy it. The storytelling is amazingly done, a balanced blend of seriousness with humour - the whole audience was enraptured from the start, cheering, laughing and gasping. The wrestling aspect lends itself amazingly well to norse mythology and looks spectacular (can't say more on it since I have no clue about wrestling in general). Plus it's clearly a labour of love and you just can't help but share the enthusiasm when in the audience. 10/10, it's a must!

Nikita Groot

Incredible, unique storytelling seen nowhere else in the Fringe with brilliant actor-wrestlers (I never watch wrestling normally so can't really comment on that, but I thought it was incredible!), and an excellent score to go alongside! I want to see it again and again, and I can't wait to see what the incredible crew do next!

Martina G.

I watched the show tonight and I loved every minute of it. I am not a fan of wrestling but I had a blast! The show was funny and all the actors/wrestlers were super talented. Definitely a must see!

Joe

This was my favorite show. Good story. Kitschy walk in music. Fun wrestling. It was everything I needed it to be. The creator (and actor playing Loki) wants you to know that pro wrestling is legitimate theater, and the crew made the point with an exclamation.

Michael

Even if professional wrestling is not your thing, Mythos: Ragnarok is a unique blend of athleticism, arts, story-telling and comedy that entertains, delights and drags out your investment into the characters of Norse mythology. A thoroughly enjoyable evening that had us cheering along for heroes and gasping at the twisting events of the story.

Yola Lu

Um, probably the best show at the Fringe right now. Holy moley shit. I cheered, I laughed, and I left feeling so inspired. You know how people made fun of Lin Manuel because they were like, "you can't do a rap show about Alexander Hamilton" and he did it and proved everyone wrong. Well the same could be said about this show. Wrestling with viking mythology - a combo I never thought I'd say but here we are. I'm gonna see this show again when the guy who played Loki plays Odin (like...the 14th I believe!) and then again another time when my friend comes into town. I'll be seeing this show 3 times I guess. That's how wonderful it is. I even bought 3 freakin tshirts after and will be proudly wearing them around the Fringe.

Anthony M

I thought this was going to be terrible, but was dragged along by my friend anyway… One of the best things I saw this fringe! Funny, acrobatic and informative. It left me wanting to see more professional wrestling and read more Norse mythology.

Gareth Blinkhorn

A fabulous show – a fringe must see of 2022! An exciting telling of the story of Odin and Loki in the most physical way possible. Mixing the performance art of theatre with the performance art of pro-wrestling is a stoke of genius and makes this worth every penny of the ticket price – I give it a Meltzer 6 star review.

Alex Chibnall

With the rise of AEW and the turbulent nature of the WWE itself, wrestling is beginning to garner more attention and praise from a mainstream crowd than it has received in recent years. However, this piece of theatre has arguably done more to accomplish pro wrestling’s credibility to any lucky audience than the two aforementioned companies.

This has been achieved through numerous factors, with one of them obviously being the wrestling. These athletes put on a clinic of wrestling in this sort of environment with very few botches, excellent selling, near-seamless reversals and a palpable love for the sport which has been lost by many in the last few years.

I won’t delve into the details any more because I think it is unfair on me to spoil the splendour of the show and instead I encourage anyone to watch this show whether you are a wrestling ‘mark’ as myself, or just looking for a thrilling evening.

Felipe Soza

Truly awesome, loved every second!

Alexis Rose

Absolutely fantastic piece of theatre – unique, genre-busting, thrilling and beautifully executed. Combining the drama of Norse mythology with pro wrestling is an absolute stroke of genius. A complete must-see!

Emma Murray

An absolutely amazing show filled with an original combination of wrestling, comedy, theatre, and mythology that makes it a wonderfully unique performance unlike any other. Truly brilliant.

Ralph Bannerman

Whether you know a lot about the mythology behind the performance or only know the Marvel version this is a really enjoyable experience! I love theatre of all kinds and I’ve never been a fan of wrestling but the way in which it is used to tell the story is amazing! I laughed and cheered the characters on and yeah I got a little teary at times. There is subtle little references to norse mythology die-hard fans will get which is very rewarding for people such as myself but also the story is easy enough to follow for those new to it or like I said have only seen the marvel version of the story. You can see te cast work so hard to. Achieve what they do on stage! It truly is a performance not to be missed! It’s also well worth picking up their book at the end for only £10 gives a bit of insight into the directors vision which I think he has achieved sensationally well! And gives a little more explanation about the mythology behind it! Hopefully I can squeeze into another show its no wonder this show regularly sells out!

Jennifer Newlands

Hugely enjoyable. Everything you would want from a wrestling and a fun story. Well worth it!

Al

I only got into pro-wrestling earlier this year, so this was the first show I’d ever seen, and it couldn’t have been more perfect.

The storytelling, the dialogue, the music, and of course the wrestling itself were all brilliant, and everything and everyone worked together so perfectly. The performers are clearly having the time of their lives and have put so much into it, and I just really hope this opportunity leads to something even bigger for everyone involved, because by Odin they deserve it.

I can’t stress enough that if you only see one show at the Fringe this year, see this one.

THIS NERDS A NATIONAL TOUR!

GLORIOUS FUN! TOTALLY METAL!

Such a unique experience and a true labour of love. Go see this remarkably show and you’ll get your monies worth. Have a drink and get stuck in with the audience participation. Cheer, boo and whoop away as the God’s of ancient Scandinavia get down and dirty.

These performers and professional wrestlers(actors, acrobats, stuntmen/women) and you’ll be thrilled by seeing them go at eachother close up.

The show has elements of drama, soap opera, comedy but still feels epic and the wrestling is INCREDIBLE close up! To call it stag fighting falls short.

I love Norse mythology so it pressed my buttons because the writer (and charismatic star) clearly loves the Viking legends. It was a euphoric show and plenty of women in the crowd very much enjoying the impressive male bodies on display. The women are pretty darn sexy too. Everyone shines but Odin(played by Ed Gamester)is truly a fantastic lead!

Compelling, funny, charming, sexy and dangerous.

DONT BE PUT OFF if you’ve never seen wrestling and don’t thing you’ll like it. The show is SO MUCH FUN.

This has to be the hardest working show at the Fringe. Go see them, be wowed and spread the word

Susan

The best show I’ve seen so far. An absolutely amazing experience. Do yourself an favor, go to this show.

Sally A

Wow! I’d been told it was good but it still blew me away. I’ve never seen theatre done with wrestling before, and I’ve never seen wrestling done without the security of ring ropes. The entire cast were fantastic, how they manage that level of physicality while delivering their lines night after night is beyond me. Stunning.

Lily Magoon

If you were to only see one show at Fringe, this is the one you should see. The fact that we haven’t done something like this before is absolutely insane, and thank god Ed Gamester did!! These artists are incredibly talented, and clearly love what they do. You CANNOT afford to miss this show!

Damon

Awesome show. Never seen anything like, want to see again

Craig Melson

This was awesome. Cannot get enough of how good that show was.

Ali Rohrbaugh

10000/10! Forget Hamilton, THIS show is the show to get non-theatre people to fall in love with theater!

J

This show made me want to start a fight with the next bloke down at Spoons – just pure adrenaline pumping. What an original concept, combining pro-wrestling with norse mythology. If this is the only thing I’ll see at the Fringe it will definitely have been worth it!! I even got a photo with mighty Odin himself, so cool.

Leo Dooley

This is handsdown the best show I have watched at fringe. The atmosphere was insane and all the actors/ wrestlers were top notch. Watch it even if you don’t like wrestling

Tanya Kersten

The show was TERRIFIC. I was not sure what to expect as I am not a wrestling fan and was there with my 20 something son who is. I loved it. The wrestlers were engaging, the music was fun and the storyline was great. I would highly recommend it.

Nathaniel Savoy

Not just the most fun show I’ve seen at the Fringe but also the best: the cast and crew of Mythos: Ragnarok have put together something truly special. Alternating seamlessly between laugh-out-loud funny, bone-shattering excitement, and pure unadulterated energy and panache, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if this is the stand-out show of the season. If it isn’t, it deserves to be. I clapped so hard I got a blister, screamed myself hoarse, and I am both a life-long theater goer and extremely hard to please. If you go see one show during the entire festival, see this one. You’ll be doing yourself a favor.

Celine Schaumans

Lovingly-written and perfectly executed, Ragnarok is an amazing theatrical retelling of Norse mythology with some kick-ass wrestling and a great comedy thrown in the mix. The stunning costume design paired with genuinely phenomenal acting from the actors brings every character to life and has you paying rapt attention from the very beginning of the show. I’ve never watched any kind of wrestling, but this was so fun to watch and it was used so well as a story-telling device! I had such a good time watching Ragnarok, I yelled my voice raw cheering. The cast were also incredibly kind and wonderful and I look forward to supporting more of their work in the future.

Ellie

This show was seriously amazing! Absolutely go see it if you can, there’s nothing like it! I’m not a pro wrestling fan, I’ve actually never seen any before, but I went along to see this on the recommendation of friends who work with the Fringe, and it was definitely worth it. The story felt faithful to the myths it was based on, and for people who described themselves as wrestlers rather than actors, it was very believable and well acted.

Seriously, I can’t overstate how phenomenal this was. I was literally shaking when I left, just from how much I enjoyed it.

Kevin Moss

Incredible show, bring the family, even your nan. Especially if you like Norse Mythology, Marvel, Wrestling. Something for everyone! Move over WOS, this is the future of sports entertainment!

Ashley

Fun, talent, story, wrestling, and pure entertainment!! Go have a blast!!

David Campton

Norse mythology through the medium of WWE-style wrestling. As insane as it sounds, but great fun and, actually, stays relatively close to the original stories... Pure fringe...

Liam Rush

absolutely phenomenal. Literally cannot recommend enough. I think this is the perfect marriage of genre and medium. I want to see every mythological conflict portrayed through suplexes and clotheslines.

Robert W

What a surprise, this was brilliant. Started off a little slow and wondered where it was going but it was so much fun and so different to the endless other shows. You need to watch it

Barbara B

Just Wow! This show did not disappoint! Absolutely hilarious, exhilarating and unique! This show stands out in a crowd! Performed by wrestlers who proved they were accomplished actors too. This show is a definite Go See!

Sue Balatoni

This was our last show of 9 booked in the fringe over he last 2 days and what an ending it was. A fitting finale to a great couple of days. Rousing, funny, nail biting and sad in turn, Yes I winced a few times as they hit the canvas... but oh my goodness, the whole show was such FUN! We came out full of it.

If you are looking for something a bit different, then go see this!

Jesse

Really fun and exhilarating. Yes, this is not high brow theatre, but who cares? A fun-filled, edge of your seat 60 minutes and truly a shared experience as you can't help but be vocal and participate in the mayhem as the audience.

Enjoy!

Rachel Navetta

An epic show, a true spectacle. Ed has created something wonderful merging three things you'd never think possible, Norse mythology, pro-wrestling and theatre. This is a triumph with Ed taking the role of the mischievous Loki, played with humour and, at times, poignancy. The audience over every minute of the unique, fun and fiesta show. Great show. Definitely worth a watch!!

Michael Wight

Genuinely wasn’t sure what to expect, I love Norse mythology and I love wrestling but was sure how they’d mesh together. Needless to say the answer is flawlessly.

This is hands down THE best show of the Fringe imo. Incredible scripting, amazing action and entertainment, hilarious humour; they get the whole crowd so involved with booing and cheering and clapping along. The energy is undeniable! If you've never even considered giving Mythos or even Wrestling an opportunity to blow your mind, Seriously consider opening your mind for the show. This is easily my most recommended show for EVERYONE this year at the Fringe. 10/10

Ryan Stewart

It's fantastic! The story is very engaging and the cast works extremely well together. The wrestling moves are spectacular!

Charles Deane

A fun, engaging and surprisingly moving look at Norse mythology through wrestling. Sometimes "passion project" is a backhanded compliment, but here I mean it with full sincerity. You can tell the love that went into the whole production from the ground up.

Lily

One of my favourite things I have ever seen at Fringe, even though I doubted it would be my thing. I have never watched wrestling before (even on the telly) but it was truly incredible! Congratulations to the awesome cast and crew. If you can see them, then go, go, go!!

Edit: I came back again! Loved it even more the second time and I can’t wait to see what they do next! Obsessed with this group of people and wish them all the success with their fantastic show. Congratulations!!

Kieran Ayling

I don’t write many (any) reviews – but wow this was something special to witness last night. Committed, visceral, and an atmosphere I can’t recall ever experiencing at a fringe show before. The performers put everything they had into this and were rewarded with multiple standing ovations and a new set of fans. Go see this show. I hope it’s a huge success. And if there’s another show put on by this group next year – I’ll be there. 10/10, five stars.

Lizzie

Honestly, truly, genuinely, and i really means this – Watch this show. My god. It was fantastic, thrilling, gripping, and I promise you will not be (you cannot be) disappointed. It was the most fun i’ve had since probably around march 2020 and i’m still happily experiencing the post-show high. I did not expect to understand the bold mix of wresting, comedy and theatre, but it all ends up making sense. It comes together beautifully and i need everyone to see this so they understand this unique and wonderful mix too. So yeah it’s simple – go see it!

 Maria

Acting is gorgeous! Miles Ley your smile broke my heart!

Laura R

OMG! That show was bloody amazing! We met some of the ladies on the royal mile and I am so glad that we did. The story was brilliant, the stunts were insane and the cast deserve so much credit. From costumes to stage design, these guys took a risk and oh my days I would watch it again and again. If you are thinking about going, do it and thank me later

Michael Waite

As locals we have lost track how many fringe shows we have attended over the past 8 years. Some fantastic, some less so, but have never failed to be entertained. Yet this show truly blew away all expectations – a group of amazingly talented professionals that brought such passion and energy in a way only the most commited of artists can. The storytelling, the stunts, the sheer joy you get just being in the same room. If you can see only one show at the fringe, see this one twice! Don’t hesitate, don’t “consider” it, just get your tickets right now and you won’t be disappointed. Why are you still reading this review? Go get your ticket! Seriously, go do it!

Ella

Honestly, an absolute show stopper!!

I’ve never been to a wrestling thing, and since I’m a theatre kid I was skeptical, but the acting was great! And the fighting was PHENOMENAL!

Well told Story, great ambiance and such a good balance of fun and drama, I cannot recommend it more!

The rest of the audience agreed, with multiple standing ovations and a collective great time was had!

Thanks to the wrestlers for putting this on at great financial risk, you DESERVE the big stage

If I had more time, I would come again, and bring my friends, so I recommend you bring yours!!

Kristian Perez

This show was such a blast! It was a fun, entertaining way of combing pro wrestling, theatre, and Norse Myth! If you have any free time at all, please support these wonderful artists and have a fun night and watch this show! One of the most fun productions I have ever seen!

Kevin Mclean

I’ve been a wrestling fan for 25+ years and I’ve never seen anything like Mythos: Ragnarok! Amazing acting performaces, hard hitting wrestling filled with story, fantastic use of lighting and music, and a cast and crew clearly passionate for what they do!

 Kathryn Ailes

LOVED Mythos: Ragnarok! First show ever to mine the theatrical potential of professional wrestling into a stage/ring narrative show. Physical, bold, super engaging. The cast is so invested & truly doing something new. Don’t miss it!

Fabian

Best show of Fringe. Cancel all your plans and go. Go twice.

I wasn’t sure what to expect as I’ve never been to wrestling before and I’d heard it’s all very obvious fakery and cheap latex. This isn’t that. The fight scenes are BRILLIANTLY staged. I have a martial arts background and I was absolutely delighting in figuring out how they managed to achieve some of the clever things they did, but couldn’t figure it all out – there’s very loud bangs and real bruises and some truly incredible trust that the other performer will catch you and won’t break you. There’s only a few obvious pulled punches. It’s more clever use of momentum, a bit of catching each other, and a willingness to ACTUALLY hit the floor pretty fucking hard. (There is also a guy in the show who has to be five times my weight, who could probably snap you like a twig if you’re into that sort of thing.)

The acting is fantastic, the lights and smoke effect and AMAZING costumes all combine to make just a really stellar atmosphere. You really want to cheer and clap and stomp along.

Huge props to these guys, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a staged fight scene that I enjoyed this much in my whole life. They pulled off both comedic elements and the dramatic stuff really well, there’s a GIANT KICKASS SWORD, and the actors were better than plenty of actors I’ve seen in fancy highbrow theatre.

They clearly know their Norse mythology, but it’s a really accessible performance too. I enjoyed it with almost no knowledge of the relevant myths, but my partner (a myth nerd) couldn’t find any fault to pick either (he says some things were changed but it was clearly due to the constraints of having limited numbers of actors etc). There’s only one or two jokes that you won’t get if you don’t know the myths.

Shoutout to the understudy for Hel – if you’re reading this, YOU NAILED IT GIRL.

Keller

Mythology: I was blown away. I left the theater talking with my partner about how the performance nailed every aspect of the mythology it could have been expected to and a number it couldn’t. It’s deeply faithful to the myths, while deftly adapting them to the needs of the stage. And, of course, that makes for a very strong plot and compelling characters. The dynamic between Loki and Odin is core to any good Norse mythology, of course, but the side characters were very well-handled as well.

Combat: The stage fighting was stunning. The cast is professional wrestlers, which means that they do stage fighting and little else, for a living, at an intensity that almost any other actor would balk at. I went with a retired competitive martial artist, who was also deeply impressed by the quality of the production. The fighting is fun fighting, conveys characterization, and advances the story. The wrestling is advertised, as it should be, but it was all great.

Acting: the acting was incredible. Odin and Loki are the stars of the show, of course, each in very different ways, but their Freya (we had an understudy tonight) was fantastic, Borr (Odin’s father) did an elegant job in a very small space, and Baldr was spoilerific to describe but absolutely fantastic.

Very strongly recommended, particularly to anyone interested in well-choreographed fight scenes or Norse mythology retold with care and dedication, including in the little things, but even if you’re not usually into either it was excellent theatre. My strongest recommendation of the Fringe so far.

Brian Houston

A lot of fun! Come to laugh, cheer, boo, and cry ‘Ouch!’ every time one of the wonderfully energetic cast is slammed to the ground. Shot through with wit, you’ll be hard pushed to find a more completely committed troupe of players this side of Valhalla. And buy the book after… this is what the Fringe is all about and it demands and deserves our support! You’ll leave with a big smile on your face having been thoroughly entertained.

Lena R

Saw it today! I loved the wrestling part and mixing it with theatre was such an unexpected joy! I loved every minute of it – the fun parts (that light totally saved him!) The dangerous parts and the compelling story parts. Lots of love from Poland! You were all amazing!

Hannah L

Amazing production by these phenomenal actors. Brilliant story telling and fantastic wrestling made for an amazing production – this is a must see!!

Harald Ruby

Truly an awe inspiring show. We were swept away by the break-neck action and epic story. Prepare for a night of cheering and laughter – worth every penny!

 Gerry

A great, must-see show that truly embodies the Fringe. Action, comedy, tragedy, this one has it all. And the storytelling is at a breakneck pace.

 Grace Tompkins

One of the most brilliant and unique shows I’ve seen

Noga

What an amazing time! This lot is unbelievable!

Liz Jukovsky

As a non-wrestling person, I came in skeptical. But I loved it! The actors were having a ton of fun and the storytelling kept me engaged.

Neil

The acting and storytelling is so well done that, by the end, the audience were willing the characters to fight each other because they cared and wanted to see their favourite character achieve victory.

Laura

Absolutely fantastic! The performers were equally skilled at acting and wrestling and the production value was wildly impressive, especially the lights and sound. An excellently well-done show. You’ve never seen anything like it and you’ll kick yourself for missing it!

Dhaka Fofana

Unconventionally fun. I'm not a fan of wrestling or its sport/act, but this piece had a story that was pretty entertaining. It's raw and unpolished, but that was the thrill. I could feel their passion for this show and the sport as well. And the guy who played Odin: mammamia...

Lauren Taylor

The most impressive show I've seen so far at the Fringe. The script, the skill, the costume, the sound and light design all work so well! Was not a fan of wrestling before but turns out storytelling wrestling about my favourite Norse myths is an excellent gateway!

Mark Dawson

Norse mythology, a fun script, professional wrestling, an exuberant cast who love what they do. What isn't there to love with this? Come to the mighty battle and be prepared to holler for Odin.

Andrea

These folks work very hard to entertain you and they succeed. There's a bit of something in there for most; wrestling, storytelling, myths&legends, stage combat etc. The use of sound and lighting was fabulous for setting the atmosphere (so shout out to the tech team).

I hadn't heard of this show until 20 minutes before we walked through the doors (which I'm very glad we did). A showcase of skills that blends the talents of the group together very well. Some of the actors are more at home with their characters than others but the whole team pulls together to create a gripping and athletic performance. If you're looking for something a little different in your fringe line up then this could be it. It's not polished, it's not perfect but it is bold, brave and, I must say- really quite brilliant. Catch this show while you can. The God's (and Goddesses) are on top form; ice & Fire.

Gar

One of the best shows I've seen at this year's fringe. The athleticism, acting and storytelling are superb. I was captivated for the whole show. I'm not a fan of pro-wrestling but this works amazingly well. The audience gave it the longest ovation of any show I've been to and rightfully so. We sat close to the front and we could feel every slam, brilliant. 5 stars.

Morgan Thompson

The use of Wrestling to bring alive the Norse Myths WORKS in that unexpected way of food combos that don’t sound like they should go together but absolutely 100% do once you’ve tried it - like watermelon and feta cheese or French fries and a Chocolate Milk Shake. The actors love what they are doing on stage and it infects even the most uninterested in either wrestling or Norse mythology. This show is artistry. This is Fringe.

Elina

Norse Mythology by way of wrestling, which is as amazing as it sounds! The show's creator is exceptionally good as Loki, but all the characters were a joy to watch. Prepare yourself to cheer and chant as you witness Ragnarok!

Ben Kay

Wow, great fun! Awesome combination of theatre and thrilling wrestling, and laughs.
